This is to help you study for your quiz over Chapter 1. Do not only memorize this guide word for word, you should be prepared to show that you understand the terms and ideas listed below.
Remember the quiz will be over the vocab words "Access" to "List", which you can find here
You'll also need to know this image of common windows interface components. (click on the image for a larger view)
Also know anything I highlighted during our talk in class, such as:
- What applications make up Microsoft Office 2003?
- What is an operating system and give some examples.
- What is the difference between an optical mouse and a standard mouse?
- Know the file name extensions for common office files (word: .doc, Excel: .xls, Powerpoint: .ppt, Access: .mdb)

Welcome to class!
Here's some reminders from the first class.
For our next class, have the following things ready for a quiz grade:
1). Have the syllabus signed and ready for our next class.
2). Also have a USB drive with at least 256 Mb of space clear for this class.
3). You'll also need a three-ringed binder that'll be only used for this class.
In class we completed our first assignment.
You wrote 4 SMART goals for the following areas of your life:

4). Spiritually
SMART Goals must be:
Specific
Measurable
Attainable
Realistic
Timely
Also type 5 sentences about yourself (that I don’t already know)

STUDY EVERYTHING FOUND ON THE PAST STUDY GUIDES. THIS IS NOT THE ONLY INFORMATION ON THE EXAM.
Read over all study guides for the quizzes.
If I were you I would study for fifteen minutes a day. I would get on the computer and study each day, even on Saturday on Sunday rather than try to learn all the night before.
Two parts to the exam.
First part: Online Chapter
-Has 2 short answers
1 Fill in the blank
11 Multiple Choice Questions
15 True and False
Know the names of early computers, who invented them, and what is so important about them.
Know what part ushered the second, third, and fourth generation computers.
Know basic internet terms (ex ISP)
Convert binary to base ten, base, the number system in computers.
Charles Babbage and Ada Byron
Know what a network, firewall, cookie, and topology are.
There is a good amount of questions about programming languages.
Know the name of the computer and who invented it.
Second Part: 1st chapter of book
-Has 10 multiple choice questions
10 Completion (Fill in the Blank)
3 Short Answer
24 True and False
Know each application in Microsoft Office and what they are used for (Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.)
All of these things should be found in the study guides you took for the quizzes.
Know what input and output devices are.
Know what hardware and software is.
Know what the basic Windows interface items are.
Know what a shortcut and the keyboard accelerator are.
Know what multitasking is.
Know about file names and how to organize them into folders.
Know input devices.
Know the basic interfaces of windows.
Know file extensions.

Remember to have your packet in the following order. Please keep them in the proper order!
1) Cover sheet with your name, date, and class, along with whatever picture or decoration you desire
2) The Practices assigned in order (as completed in the book)
3) The Review Questions
4) The Exercises in order (as completed in the book)
Have me check your packet (1 time only) to catch any "silly mistakes" before turning it in.
